Poker Debate at Legislature

Greg Raymer won the poker World Series in Las Vegas last year. It carried a five million dollar first prize.

Raymer is in Bismarck today to lobby for an Internet poker bill in the North Dakota Legislature. It would allow for licensing and regulation of poker sites that are based in North Dakota.

Raymer was born in Minot. His father was serving in the Air Force then. But he says his dad moved out of North Dakota less than a year later -- to his home state of Michigan.

Raymer collects fossils, and is known by the nickname Fossil Man. At the poker table, he sometimes wears a pair of glasses with reptile eyes on the lenses. He bought them at a gift shop.

The glasses have made him known to observers of television poker shows. Raymer says people often ask about them -- and many people don't recognize him without them.

Raymer is a former patent attorney for the Pfizer drug company. He quit his job last year to play poker full time, after he won the World Series event.
