At basketball star Shaquille O'Neal's recent 33rd birthday bash, the birthday boy and his guests got a hefty serving of poker. The event featured poker games, complete with cash prizes to be donated to charity organizations including the American Humane Society and the United Way. Some stars of the world of poker even showed up, including 2004 World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion Greg Raymer, as well as Nolan Dalla, Director of Communications for the WSOP.
Shaq, a champion in his own game, is out to conquer poker as well. In honor of his birthday, he received a year's worth of poker tutoring from world champion Raymer, as well as a seat at the $10,000 buy-in 2005 WSOP main event, on-the-house –
all courtesy of online poker site PokerStars. Shaq joins the ever-growing list of celebrities jumping on the poker bandwagon. The NBA great can be expected to appear at the 2005 WSOP main event in Las Vegas, provided that the tournament does not interfere with his NBA schedule.
