Watch Your Behind: ‘Fully Loaded’ Shotgun Chair

This chair is the work of Alexander Reh. The meat of the chair consists of 450 .12 gauge shotgun shells. The brass ends of the shells supposedly create a massaging texture. Maybe I am not enough of a contemporary design-aficionado, but I’d rather sit on some cheap padded faux leather than lethal shotgun shells any day of the week. At least it looks pretty sweet.

Joseph Fiennes Attends Cigar Festival To Celebrate New Cigar

British actor Joseph Fiennes of Shakespeare in Love fame has helped launch a new Cuban cigar, tossing off a few lines from Romeo and Juliet in honour of the cigar's maker.
Fiennes was the featured visitor as Cuba began its annual cigar festival Monday night, presenting a cigar size called the Short Churchill by Cuba's state-owned Romeo and Juliet brand at Havana's Gran Teatro.
"I've really gained a newfound respect for the kind of level of attention, detail, complexity and energy that goes into making a cigar," Fiennes told reporters.
Fiennes noted that according to legend, former British prime minister Winston Churchill smoked more than 200,000 Cuban cigars during trips to the island.
"I cannot compete with Winston Churchill because sadly, I am only here for three enchanting days," the actor told the crowd.
Fiennes, also known for his role in The Merchant of Venice, was headed to South Africa next to work on a film. It was his first trip to Cuba.

Satan's dreamcar: The new Lamborghini Murciélago LP640

The car has a 6.5 liter engine and has a 'Thrust' electronic launch control to give it the power to make the zero-to-sixty trek in a 3.4 second leap. It can hit a top speed of 210 mph. Other details include include variable-valve timing, drive-by-wire throttle, and optional ceramic brakes. As one of Autoblog's commenters keenly noted, the dangerous inky curves of the car combined with the eerily glowing orange interior in this shot make it look like Satan's dreamcar.

March is a Big Month for Poker at Caesars Palace in Vegas

Caesars Palace’s poker room in Las Vegas will have a busy next couple of weeks, welcoming everyone from racing car drivers to poker royalty at two high-profile events.
It all begins Saturday, when someone will walk out of Caesars knowing he or she is one of 64 players who will be competing in the 2006 National Heads-Up Poker Championship, which takes place a week later from March 4-6 at Caesars. NBC will show 10 hours of the championship on Sundays during April and May.
The field, except for the one player who will be determined in the $230 hold’em satellite event on Saturday, is filled with the invited reigning poker elite. Saturday's satellite has unlimited rebuys for the first hour-and-a-half.
Phil Hellmuth won the first Heads-Up Championship last year, and he’ll be there to try to repeat. Like last year, he’ll have to go head-to-head, over and over, against the toughest players in the world, including Gus Hansen, Hasan Habib, John Cernuto, Daniel Negreanu, and Scott Fischman.
The prize pool is $1.5 million, and the winner will receive $500,000.
A day after the Heads-up Championship ends, racing car driver Jeff Gordon and his crew of celebrities and poker stars will take over Caesars Palace's poker room for the Jeff Gordon Foundation Poker Classic. The buy-in for this event is $1,000.
Caesars is preparing for 1,000 players to show up at the event. Prizes include a money purse and a seat in the World Series of Poker’s main event.
Chris Moneymaker is slated to cohost the event with Gordon. Celebrity players include Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, racing car great Tony Stewart, Robert Williamson III, and WSOP runner-up Steven Dannemann.
Participants won’t have to worry about making it deep into the tournament by avoiding the invited poker pros. In a twist, the pros and celebrities won’t even enter the game until the last 20 tables are determined. Then they’ll be dispersed among those who are left, and n the real fun begins.
The Jeff Gordon Foundation has provided continuous support for children and their families through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Marrow Foundation (in partnership with the Hendrick Marrow Program), and Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital at NorthEast Medical Center, and many other charities through their grant programs supporting children with special needs.
Caesars Palace’s poker room is the newest poker room on the Las Vegas Strip, just opened in December. Included in the $12 million design are 6,000 square feet of space next to the main 30-table room that will be used for large events like the Heads-Up Championship and Gordon‘s charity tournament.
The main poker room has 25 high-definition television sets and is decorated with 11 LeRoy Neiman paintings that chronicle 40 years of history at Caesars Palace. Oh, and it also holds 30 poker tables.
Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc., which got back into poker in a big way by buying Binions Horseshoe, which included the rights to the WSOP, completed its purchase of Caesar’s Palace last year. Before Harrah’s bought Caesars, the casino went 16 years without having a poker room.

The Playboy bunny is hot money, honey

Playboy, the legendary publisher of uh, adult-themed magazines, reported its fourth-quarter results Tuesday and there are several easy jokes we could make about the fact that the numbers were released on Valentine's Day.
But we're above that. Really. After all, why go lowbrow when discussing a company that's actually been a star performer in an underperforming sector?
Playboy's stock jumped 13 percent in 2005, a more than respectable performance for a media company, particularly one with strong ties to the struggling publishing business.
What's more, the company raised its earnings guidance for 2006 Tuesday, sending Playboy (Research) shares up nearly 9 percent in early trading.
And several analysts interviewed recently think there's more love to go around for Playboy investors.

Carmen Electra is a Hobbit

Convicts can now solve crimes while playing poker!

Inmates will soon be able to help solve crimes while playing cards.
Local law enforcement is borrowing the playing card idea the federal government used to help catch war criminals.
Each deck will randomly feature 52 victims from unsolved cases in Southwest Florida.
These cards, however, will only go to prison inmates.
"You have inmates sitting in a jail all day long. A lot of them are playing cards. By putting cold cases on these playing cards we're hoping to stir up some conversations," said Trish Routte of Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.
Any doubt that the program would work was put to rest when an inmate in Polk County was playing cards and recognized a man on one of the cards. The man was a victim in an unsolved murder investigation.
The inmate called Crime Stoppers and told them what he knew. Detectives then arrested two people.
"If nothing else, if the production of these decks lead to an arrest in one cold case, and it provides closure for one family, then it's worth it, said Routte.
Crime Stoppers plans to deal out the cards to inmates across Southwest Florida in April, including Charlotte, Hendry, and Collier Counties.

Terry Rodgers Paintings

Terry Rodgers, a painter whose natural facility might easily have tempted him into mere illustrationism, has instead taken on a rigorous artistic project. There is, in Western art, no genre more subtly entwined with history-or more challenging to an artist's abilities-than that of social reportage. For the form demands not just the convincing depiction of individual personalities (already daunting enough) but the evocation of an entire way of life. The artist must possess psychological acuity, a nuanced familiarity with the chosen milieu, and the formal inventiveness to conceive information-rich yet concise images.

The New World Poker Tour Hottie: Courtney Friel

Last year, the roar from the final table at the WPT Bellagio Classic was tremendous. However one WPT roar eclipsed it... the collective groan and subsequent sobbing of poker dorks everywhere as WPT hostess with more than most Shana Hiatt not only got married, but quit the WPT hostess job.Now that the felt has dried from the onslaught of emotion, WPT has announced Shana Hiatt's replacement, the deluscious Courtney Friel. Courtney, holds a BA in Political Science (with a minor in Broadcast Journalism) as well as a stacked deck. She's 1/2 Miss America and 1/2 Diane Sawyer, and surely will interject some 'journalistic integrity' into the WPT bimbette role vacated by Hiatt.Courtney is a native Philadelphian, just shy of 26 years old, a Taurus on the Aries cusp, enjoys skydiving, surfing, traveling, sushi and poker in the rear. In addition to traipsing around the world with Vince, Mike and the WPT crew, Ms. Friel is a reporter for the CBS affiliate in Palm Springs, California.

Personal flying car to Fly by 2009?

The Transition Personal Air Vehicle will allegedly be a car/aircraft designed for 100-to 500-mile jaunts, and when the flying is all done the wings will fold up so the car can be driven on highways and byways. Then, it can fill up with gas at a regular old gas station, albeit using premium fuel only. We’re told a working prototype is forthcoming by 2008, and the boys are working on a scale model to be shown at the EAA AirVenture Conference in Oshkosh, Wisconsin this summer. Make no little plans.Transition Personal Air Vehicle to Fly by 2009?

World Series of Poker

Whether it's the lure of playing with virtual money or just the convenience of dealing a hand without the need to pull a poker face, video-game poker and online gambling have become surprisingly popular.
With televised poker tournaments also becoming the norm on late-night TV, it only seems natural that we should now see an officially-licensed World Series of Poker game hitting the shelves.
To start your pro poker career you need to create your own player and customise his/her appearance so as to be appropriately intimidating. Choose from dark sunglasses, frightening facial hair, enormous cowboy hats - you name it. Once this is out of the way, you can get straight down to the dirty work of fleecing your rival competitors of their chips.
There are five variations of poker in this title: Texas Hold 'em, Omaha, Omaha High-Low, Seven Card Stud and Razz Poker. Games play out in the style of a World Series of Poker TV broadcast, complete with ESPN-style commentators (who exhibit an eerie likeness to the Thunderbirds) and glitzy camera angles to show off the "excitement" of the event.
However, the basic elements for a good game of poker have been lost somewhere along the line. The presentation is frankly awful, with a lot of unnecessary clutter on the screen, when all we really want is a good view of the cards in play and the central community hand. Sometimes you're squinting to see what your cards are.
As far as the artificial intelligence goes, don't go in expecting the game to replicate the card-playing ability of the pros they licensed for the game. This is a very random game of poker that wouldn't stand up to any real scrutiny. Thankfully, you can play human opponents online.

PartyPoker.com Launches New Poker Platform

PartyPoker.com has a surprise for its players today.
The popular online site released a new version of its poker platform and it's not just a pretty face. The new platform is packed with features that are sure to please both the leather-butt grinder and the casual poker fan alike.
The biggest change is perhaps the new game filtering system. Intergrated in the lobby are several filtering devices that allow players to more easily find the types of games they are looking for with a simple click of the mouse. The same organizational tree-style listing of games under their appropriate tabs is still incorporated, but now players can filter out the games they don’t want to see.
For example, with a click of the mouse, tournament players can remove the list of cash games from the lobby, and vice versa, which makes the lobby much less crowded.
Cash players will notice that the no-limit and pot-limit games are no longer listed by maximum buy-in. Now, they are listed by the sizes of the blinds.
The cash tables also now bear names like “Gotta Go,” “Top Rod,” and “Polka.”
The list of available cash games is now more organized in that players will not have to scroll through sometimes hundreds of tables to find an open seat in the game they are looking for. Tabs are now included that organize the games swiftly.
For example, players looking to sit at a six-player maximum table no longer have to scroll through all the tables looking for that distinction. Now they only have to click the “Player” tab at the top to have all the six-player tables pop to the top of the list.

Ferrari Computer: To Match with your Car!

Poker Tip: The One-Handed Shuffle

From the basic grip rotate your hand so the deck is standing vertically along the longest axis, holding the cards up with your little finger resting underneath. The vertical grip isn't strictly necessary, but it makes a clean cut of the cards easier. Bring your forefinger out from the back of the deck and grip the side of the deck above your middle finger. Use your forefinger to pull back half the cards. Now pinch the bottom half of the deck (closest to your palm) tightly between thumb and forefinger, letting the top half go with your thumb and balancing it on your little finger and supporting it with your middle and ring finger. You'll want to rotate your hand away from you slightly to do this, letting the top half of the deck balance neatly in your last three fingers.
Now comes the tricky part. With thumb and forefinger rotate the bottom half of the deck anticlockwise as far as you can while still cradling the top half mostly vertical with your bottom three fingers like so. This should bring your forefinger close to the opposite side of the top half of the deck. Now rotate your hand so the faces of the lower half of the deck (between thumb and forefinger) are pointing directly down and your palm is facing up. The top half of the should now be resting against the nail of your curled forefinger. What you want to do now is stretch and push upwards with your forefinger, so that it is touching the side of the top half of the deck. If you have big hands you will want to pinch the top half of the deck between middle and forefinger. If you have smaller hands (like myself) you should slide your middle finger underneath the top half of the deck and pinch the top half between forefinger and ring finger. Now pivot the two halves of the deck about your forefinger so that the corner of what was the top half of the deck is braced against the side of what was the bottom half of the deck. If you've done this correctly you should now be back at a stable grip with the deck in two halves next to each other.

Anna Benson: Poker Commentator?

According to Rick Freeman's recent article for the Associated Press, Benson has been playing everyday in preparation for the new gig. Apparently, Benson has been playing online, over her cell phone, or in any live games she can find as she attempts to immerse herself in the game.
"I'm still a young little poker player. I've got a long way to go. It is a thrill to me. They call it a sport now, so it's kind of cool for me to come in and be my own type of athlete," Benson said.
In addition to making money from the game, Benson also sees the charitable side of the poker as key reason for her involvement. "I'm hoping to really amass an empire with this poker. I love to give money away to charities, to change people's lives."

Phil Hellmuth To Defend Heads Up Poker Championship

One of the most popular poker events in 2005 was the National Heads Up Poker Championship. The tournament, which was held at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and broadcast on NBC in May, brought sixty four of the greatest names in the game together to determine the best heads up player in the world. Many will remember the epic showdown in the final tournament, which was won 2-1 by former World Champion Phil Hellmuth in a stirring battle over another former World Champion in Chris "Jesus" Ferguson.
Hellmuth will return to defend that hard fought championship when the second annual National Heads Up Poker Championship kicks off competition from March 4-6 at the brand new tournament poker facilities at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. NBC will once again be filming the entirety of the tournament and will broadcast the event in a six part, ten hour block of coverage beginning on April 16th and lasting into May. Up for grabs this time in addition to the championship will be $1.5 million, with $500,000 going to the survivor of the series.

Best Starting Hands In Poker?

Confused about which hands you should lead out with in a limit ring game? Phil Gordon has a great chart on his Expert Insight: Final Table Poker website that clearly defines which cards he believes you should raise (or fold) with, depending on your position in the hand.
It is important to note though, the chart is based on playing a 6-handed ring game and applies only if you are the first player to enter the pot. If other players have called or raised before you, you may have to adjust your play accordingly. Either way, it is a great reference for those new to the game, or for those that could use a reminder every now and then.

Poker Tells

The world’s best poker players can read their opponents’ most subtle expressions and behaviors—no matter how hard their opponents try to hide them. A tapping foot, a change in vocal tone, and countless other clues "tell" an informed player what cards the opponent is holding and how they’re likely to be played. The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to Poker Tells explains everything amateur poker players need to start interpreting tells and using them to develop poker intuition.

Andy Beal is done with poker for good

According to the Public Relations Department of Beal Banks, Andy Beal will no longer be playing poker. In a phone call to the Texas billionaire’s office this afternoon, Beal’s PR representative stated for the record: “Andy Beal will not be participating in the 2006 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship (NHUPC) and he’s done with poker for good.”
Beal is the banker, real estate developer, and mathematical theorist who established fame, but not fortune, when he repeatedly challenged the elite of the poker world. Last week he appeared at the Wynn in Las Vegas for a five-day session of heads-up matches against the Corporation; a team of professional poker players who aggregate their money and match it against his in a spirited game of limit Texas hold’em.
The Corporation put $10 million up against Beal’s $20 million and the game was a $50,000-$100,000 limit hold’em, heads-up, freeze-out. After five days the match ended -- apparently for good -- only moments before the Superbowl.
The burgeoning aerospace entrepreneur suffered a loss to his bankroll, and possibly his ego, during the 2005 match, but Beal appeared confident and ready for a new challenge in 2006. He was ahead approximately $2 million, until Ted Forrest went up to bat and brought his team back for a win of an estimated $2.5 million in the end.
That must have been the last straw for Beal. Card Player called his office this morning to secure a promotional photo for the upcoming NHUPC and was told of Beal's decision. Beal had already accepted his invitation to participate in the NBC event, even before he returned to Las Vegas to face off with The Corporation. Upon returning home to Dallas, Texas he apparently changed his mind.

Paris Hilton Biography:

At one point, it would have been hard to define Paris Hilton. "Career heiress" doesn't cut it; nor does "party girl" or "high-ranking socialite-cum-model-cum-actress," and "American royalty" was arguably too dramatic a label for a woman whose true breakout role cost less to film than a night in a budget room at the neighborhood Hilton hotel. Luckily, as lackluster economies are wont to do, the early 2000s looked toward the financial elite and borrowed heavily from Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous in hopes of creating a new rush of money envy. Enter MTV Cribs, The Osbournes, Rich Girls, VH1's The Fabulous Life, and Paris Hilton, celebutante.

Heiress of hotel guru Conrad Hilton, Paris became famous for possessing the ingredients of fame, albeit minus the resumé. As she grew skinnier, blonder, wilder, and richer, society joyfully embraced her as gossip fodder and allowed her to adopt a movie-star mystique while waiving the irksome requirement of having starred in an actual movie. This is not to say Hilton has no film credits to her name; in 2001, she landed a cameo role as herself in Ben Stiller's Zoolander and later stretched her acting chops to play a rowdy clubber in The Cat in the Hat (2003). Unfortunately for Hilton, her small role in James Cox's crime thriller Wonderland that same year was overshadowed by a larger role in an explicit homemade sex video, which her ex-boyfriend promptly sold to the salivating Internet hoards. Interestingly enough, the ensuing lawsuit and barrage of negative publicity did nothing but bolster the ratings of The Simple Life, a reality show starring Hilton and fellow heiress Nicole Richie. The series chronicled Hilton and Ritchie's reactions to the pitfalls of "simple" living, such as holding a job and shopping in outlets that don't stock haute couture. While the show could never quite decide who the novelty was -- the ridiculous rich girls or "hayseed" townsfolk -- The Simple Life was, nonetheless, a huge success.

Still basking in the warmth of paparazzi camera flashes across the globe, Paris Hilton continued looking to further her acting career. She took on her biggest role to date in 2004's Nine Lives, a straight-to-video supernatural thriller directed by newcomer Andrew Getty. Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

Find out What have in Common Poker Pro Phil Hellmuth and Paris Hilton

The W Las Vegas, a planned hotel-casino and condominium in Las Vegas, is reportedly slated to become home to some famous neighbors: professional poker player Phil Hellmuth and professional party girl Paris Hilton. Phil Hellmuth recently won the W Las Vegas Poker Invitational, a celebrity poker tournament hosted by the residence-to-be at the Sundance Film Festival, and won a new home. Hellmuth beat a star-studded playing pool that included Dave Navarro, Anne Heche, Gina Gershon, Shannon Elizabeth, Danny and Chris Masterson, Laura Prepon, Lance Bass, DJ AM, Joe Reitman, Kevin Smith, and other illustrious celebs, in addition to poker pros such as Antonio Esfandiari, Annie Duke, Phil Gordon, and Phil Laak.
The grand prize at the W Las Vegas Poker Invitational was a condo in the complex valued at $700,000. Hellmuth decided to take his prize and use it as a downpayment on a $2 million penthouse in the complex. This means that Hellmuth and Hilton may share a elevator from time to time, with Paris also having put dibs on a W penthouse. This episode of Mr. Hellmuth's neighborhood, however, will have to hold off till 2009, the year that the W Las Vegas is set to open its doors.
