Poker run to benefit injured motorcyclist

March 3 started out like any other day for Brice Quigley. He was up early, as usual, riding his Harley Davidson to work in Enid from his Breckinridge home.

But that’s where the normalcy ended.

Heavy fog apparently impaired the vision of the driver of a pickup that turned in front of Quigley, according to authorities. Quigley was thrown from the bike and critically injured.

Tara Quigley has spent the past week by her husband’s side at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. He has undergone surgeries to repair multiple facial fractures, a broken back and broken arm. He fractured both of his arms, several ribs, both shoulder blades and practically every bone in his face, Tara Quigley said.

He has been on and off a ventilator, and a tracheotomy and wires holding his jaw in place are preventing him from communicating with his family. But Wednesday, Brice Quigley stood with the help of medical staff.

“He’s going to recover, but it’s going to take forever,” Tara Quigley said. “He’s got a long road.”

Quigley said both she and her sons, Jesse and Zakk, are “hanging in there” with the help of family and friends.

Some of those friends, a group of motorcycle enthusiasts Quigley frequently rides with, are hosting a fund-raiser March 26 to help with his medical expenses. John Ratliff, Keri Earhart, Drew and Kelly Harling, Jarrod Atherton, Jeff Traynor and other friends and family are hosting a benefit poker run.

Participants will have five stops and get a playing card at each stop. Cost is $15, and prizes will be awarded for best and worst poker hands. The run starts at 11 a.m. at the Frisco Bar, 608 N. Independence, and ends with the last bike at 6 p.m. at the Grand Saloon, 213 S. Grand. A motorcycle isn’t required to participate.

The route hasn’t been determined, and the run is scheduled for rain or shine. For more information, contact Ratliff at 278-9078 or go to www.ironlivergoons.com or bugginoutforkids.com.
