Internet Poker

A lobbying effort is getting cranked up in the Capitol -- on behalf of an Internet poker licensing bill.

A number of gambling industry representatives are talking to legislators and state officials today.

The Internet poker bill has already been approved in the House. It is getting its first Senate hearing in the Judiciary Committee tomorrow.

Nigel Payne is chief executive officer for a London company called Sportingbet PLC.

Payne says America is almost the only large country that doesn't regulate Internet gambling.

He says the industry is here to stay and it's growing -- and regulation would help both the industry and North Dakota taxpayers.

He says unregulated games could allow underage gamblers to wager money, and allow players to play for too long.
