Hold'em poker bill passes committee

ST. PAUL — A St. Cloud lawmaker's plan to legalize Texas Hold'em poker tournaments in Minnesota is advancing through the Legislature.

Members of the Gaming Division of the House Regulated Industries committee recommended Tuesday that the House version of a bill from Sen. Dave Kleis, R-St. Cloud, progress to a full hearing of the committee. The Senate Agriculture, Veterans and Gaming committee last week recommended the bill.

The bill, SF317/HF519, would add the popular poker variant to a list of other games including cribbage and bridge that are legal to play in tournaments for prizes worth no more than $200.
