Poker is Raging across US Campuses

Poker is popping up on college campuses across the U.S. Perhaps inspired by poker programming including "Celebrity Poker Showdown" and "The World Series of Poker," the long-existing but only recently popularized Texas Hold'em version of poker has become something of a mainstay in students' extra-curricular schedules.

Whereas the typical campus has always hosted the occasional round of poker, now students are meeting in classrooms, dorms and lobbies on campuses across the country several times a week. Some schools, such as Seattle University, have even sponsored tournaments to raise money for charity.

For the more studious of students not wishing to spend all their nights out playing poker, Royal Vegas Casino is hosting a student online poker tournament, taking place over eight-months, so that students can stagger their play and compete from the comfort of their own homes. Anyone studying at an institute of higher education can participate to compete for scholarship money.
