HUNDREDS of gamblers are being attracted to Yorkshire to take part in one of the most lucrative card games ever staged in the region.
Poker players from across Britain will play in the first Steel City Cup in Sheffield tonight in a competition that will net the winner up to £45,000.
The event at Napoleons Casino, Owlerton, is part of a festival of poker which aims to cash in on the huge increase in the popularity of the game.
Craig Wicks, the casino's poker room supervisor, said: "Interest in the Steel City Cup has been huge and some of the UK's top players are set to compete.
"But there's also a healthy number of up-and-coming local players ... and it would be great if the inaugural year of the trophy was won by a Sheffielder."
