Poker Fans Lose Big Hand in State House

KFYR-TV News

Poker fans in the North Dakota House have lost a big hand.
State law allows charities to run two poker nights each year. Bismarck Representative Dave Weiler put in a bill to get rid of the limit.
It touched off a debate in the House, and lawmakers voted down the idea. The vote was 59 to 33 against.
Weiler says the idea will let charities compete against the casinos on North Dakota's American Indian reservations.
Wimbledon Representative Phil Mueller says the
Legislature deals with gambling expansion bills every year, and he's wondering when it will stop.
Bismarck Representative Lawrence Klemin says if the
Legislature allows charities to run poker nights any time they want a lot of people will be going broke.
