(Hartford-AP, Feb. 8, 2005 11:10 PM) _
A game of cards at your favorite restaurant isn't too far-fetched in Connecticut.
State lawmakers heard testimony today about legislation that would allow bars and restaurants to hold poker and card tournaments.
Representative Brian O'Connor says because of the popularity of poker, organized card playing would provide an economic boost to establishments.
The legislation would not include the ability of bars and restaurants to make a profit from the games.
It is still uncertain whether the players might make some money. O'Connor said he is considering different ideas for prizes such as free dinners, a point system where people win trophies or possibly the participants pitching in some cash that would be divided among the top players.
