Like last year, NBC will counter Super Bowl pregame programming with the Arena Football League and poker.
In Tampa Bay, NBC has scheduled the Dallas-New York Arena game beginning at 1 p.m. (In Orlando and Jacksonville, it's Philadelphia at Chicago to accommodate Eagles fans, NBC says.)
At 4 p.m., NBC has scheduled the inaugural Poker Superstars Championship, the grand finale of the all-professional, invitation-only tournament with $1-million going to the winner.
Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, T.J. Cloutier, Barry Greenstein, Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer and Chip Reese paid $400,000 to compete. Matt Vasgersian calls the action with 2004 player of the year Erick Lindgren adding analysis.
And don't worry about missing the start of the Super Bowl. NBC will have a "Countdown to Kickoff Clock" throughout the broadcast.
