Starting on Friday, February 11, Pompano Park and the Pompano Beach Casino Dealers School have teamed up to offer free beginner/novice poker classes.
The classes will be held in the card room at the racetrack every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
The free classes are open to anyone age 18 and older and will take place from 12 noon to 3.00 pm. Classes will be taught on how to play Texas Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Low and 7 Card Stud, the three most popular games.
“There are so many people that really want to play professional poker.” Said William Vineyard, manager of the Poker Room at Pompano Park.
“But they are a little intimidated to just come in and sit at a table for the first time. They may enjoy watching the big tournaments on television, play with their friends in the kitchen or even enter tournaments on the internet, but everyone is a little timid when they actually sit at a real table with chips.
“We want to give those folks a chance to sit at a real table with chips and learn to play the game for a half hour.” Vineyard explained.
“That's all it really takes and then they will be ready and have the confidence to play in a real game and enjoy it.
“And the people that are enrolled in the Pompano Beach Casino Dealers School are also learning the game and they will have gained much more experience in teaching patrons about poker in real conditions.” Vineyard said.
“It's a win-win situation for everyone.”
