Poker tourney to help shelter

Supporters of Vacaville's Opportunity House will transform the historic downtown Opera House into a Vegas-style casino Feb. 5 when the nonprofit hosts its first Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament.
Open to the public, the tournament will take the first 130 players and 100 spectators who purchase tickets for the fund-raising event for the local homeless shelter.

The evening will be complete with dealers, poker tables, entertainment, a "Losers' Lounge," a silent auction and prizes.

"This is an exciting opportunity to experience what it is like to be a contender of a Texas Hold'em tournament, while at the same time supporting a worthy cause," said Paul McGuire, who heads the Opportunity House board of directors.

For a $150 donation, each player will receive a seat at one of the many tables and the opportunity to compete for donated prizes. First place is a Caribbean cruise for two with airfare included.

Check-in will be 5 p.m.

Feb. 5 in the Opera House at Main and Davis streets in downtown Vacaville. Player tickets are $150, but guest passes are available for $50.
