Palace Casino's Z Club will get a jump on Fat Tuesday by hosting a "Bacardi Gras Ball" on Feb. 3. Guests can line up at a 30-foot king cake and hope they get the piece with a baby. Whoever finds the "Ultra Gold Baby" wins $2,000. Admission is free, and doors open at 9 p.m.
Penn National Gaming expects its acquisition of Argosy Gaming Co. to close in the second half of this year. Argosy stockholders approved the transaction last week. Penn National, which is the parent company of Boomtown Casino in Biloxi and Casino Magic Bay St. Louis, will be the third largest casino company once the merger is completed. The company this week announced it had completed the sale of a Pocono Downs racetrack and its off-track wagering facilities for $280 million.
Florida voters in Broward and Miami-Dade counties will decide March 8 whether to allow slot machines at racetracks and jai alai frontons. Should both referendums pass, a total of 10,000 slots could be added to gambling venues in Broward County and 6,000 in Miami-Dade.

Redman of Louisiana Inc. plans to open a new video poker truck stop in Terrebonne Parish in Gray, La. The truck stop would bring the number of mini-casinos in Terrebonne to 10 and push the number of video poker machines past 1,000.
