The tournament will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Longfellow's Inn on Union Avenue.
Easter Seals provides clinical and medical services for those with disabilities and conducts three major programs that involve Saratoga Springs and the surrounding area.
David Campbell is coordinating the event. He said finding a venue for the tournament to accommodate the time and day was difficult.
'Longfellow's was gracious enough to let us hold the tournament there,' he said.
Campbell expects between 35 and 70 people to attend.
'I'd like to see between 40 and 60 participants,' he said.
The entry fee is $40, and $15 of each entry fee goes to Easter Seals.
'It's a time to socialize and help out a good cause,' Campbell said.
Texas Hold'em is a poker game in which the two players to the left of the dealer have the big and small blinds, the initial antes. After shuffling, each player is dealt two cards and players can call, fold or bet when it's their turn.
A card from the deck is then discarded or 'burned' and three cards are turned face up, known as the 'flop,' for all players to use.
Another round of betting takes place and players can call, fold or raise when their turn comes. Next, another card is burned and another card is turned face up in the community area. The fourth card is called the 'turn' or 'fourth street.'
A third round of betting takes place and then the dealer burns another card and turns up the fifth card, known as 'the river' or 'fifth street.' The final round of betting then takes place. All players still in the game show their cards and the best hand wins the pot.
Campbell said hold'em is a game of skill, not a game of chance. He thinks the growing popularity of hold'em is the attraction received by the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker over the past few years.
'People get hooked,' Campbell said. 'I'm one of them. It's a hobby people enjoy, and this gives them a chance to combine that with helping a good cause.'
