More people are heading to Deadwood to learn when to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em.
In poker halls in Deadwood, and around the country, games like Texas Hold 'Em are quickly gaining popularity. In the past three months, Deadwood gaming halls have added eight new poker tables.
The Deadwood Gaming Association says at this time last year, only nine of the 14 live tables in town were active, now there's 23. “Everybody's wanting to play it now—they're all watching it on TV, and playing it on the internet. Everybody's trying to learn how to play and trying to be involved in it, said Danny Burr from the Franklin Hotel.
Burr says poker players are younger than in the past. He says many college students are trying their hand.
