Date for charity poker tournament revised

Conflicting venue schedules have caused organizers of Vacaville's first Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament, a fund-raiser for the local homeless shelter, to change the event's date.
The tournament will be Feb. 12 - a week later than previously announced - in the historic Opera House at Main and Davis streets in downtown Vacaville.

Prompt check-in is still 5 p.m. Participants will compete for prizes in a Vegas-style casino, complete with dealers, a pit boss, Texas Hold'em poker tables, entertainment, appetizers, a bar, a Loser's Lounge and a silent auction.

The tournament is open to the public and can accommodate nearly 300 people, players and spectators.

Vacaville's Opportunity House is building on the soaring popularity of no-limit Texas Hold'em poker. For a $150 donation, each player receives a seat at a table, two complimentary drink tickets and the opportunity to compete for donated prizes.

The first-place poker player wins a Caribbean cruise for two with airfare included.

The tournament is the first of what organizers hope will be an annual event to help fund operation of Vacaville's Opportunity House.
