SHAMOKIN — Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its first “Charity Poker Night” on Saturday, Feb. 26, as part of its ongoing effort to help local charity groups achieve their goals.
Regular gambling tables will include blackjack, five-card stud, seven-card stud, follow the queen, five-card draw, and Bill 95 will bring the dice game.
Each table will be sponsored by a chamber member, and the profits from each table will be donated to that sponsor's choice of charity. So far the Wayside Inn, Weigh Scales, attorney Edward Greco, Procopio & Associates Fund-raising, Bill 95FM, Primerica and Special Home Care have agreed to be sponsors, but the chamber is in need of two more.
There will also be a separate Texas Hold 'Em tournament. An extra $20 buy–in will be required to enter, with 50 percent of the pot going to the winner and 50 percent going to the charity of the winner's choice. Seats will be limited for this event because of time constraints.
The chamber is seeking four volunteers to be dealers at the poker games (volunteers don't need to be a member of the chamber to participate) and two cashiers to handle the chips and beer tickets.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. at the Wayside Inn, with games beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the Texas Hold 'Em tournament at 7 p.m. There is a $25 entrance fee if paid in advance ($30 night of event), which includes all-you-can-eat beef and soda (beer will be served at an additional 50 cents per beer) and $10 worth of gambling chips. Contact the chamber office immediately to purchase tickets, volunteer or sponsor a table.
