The desperation shot fell through the basket. The buzzer screamed. Then Dion Harris was lost in the middle of a mob of University of Michigan basketball players. But at that moment, the junior wasn't thinking about his game-winning 3-pointer.
"It was just like: 'I finally get to rest now,' '' Harris said. "We were real tired out there.''
After two overtimes and 50 minutes of basketball, Harris' shot gave Michigan an 87-84 win over Notre Dame in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament at Crisler Arena.
Harris' season, like Michigan's, has been filled with ups and downs. He struggled with an ankle injury, then couldn't find his shooting rhythm when he returned last month. All of that seemed far away - even Michigan's narrow miss on advancing to the NCAA Tournament earlier this month - as Harris lounged in front of his locker Monday night.
Michigan (20-10) hosts Miami (Fla.) at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crisler Arena in the NIT quarterfinals.
"I don't think we had a game like that all season, since I've been here,'' Harris said. "We just kept fighting, no matter what happened. We never stopped playing. That was the difference.''
